Alexis & Victor

Capuchinas Ruins

A wedding story

Bride Alexis leans against a weathered stone column in a strapless mermaid gown, golden afternoon light hitting the lime-mottled walls of Capuchinas Ruins, Antigua Guatemala — editorial bridal portrait.

How they met

Alexis and Victor met later than most of their friends, and they like to say that the timing was the point. They had each lived through their own version of starting over before they crossed paths, and by the time they sat down at the same dinner one night, both of them already knew what they wanted in a relationship. The proposal came less than two years later, with no fanfare, on a regular weekday at home. The wedding plan followed the same logic: short guest list, classical aesthetic, no theatrics.

The day

The day moved in a tight, well-edited sequence. Alexis got ready in a hotel near the venue with hair and makeup wrapping just in time for first looks, the windows open to that very particular Antigua morning light. Victor and his groomsmen kept things low-key on the other side of town. By midafternoon, guests had gathered inside the courtyards of the Capuchinas Ruins, and the ceremony began just as the sun started cutting across the cloister walls at an angle.

That golden hour inside Capuchinas is something I have learned to wait for. The stone walls catch the light and turn slightly amber, the volcanoes on the horizon read sharper, and everything about the venue gets a brief cinematic glow. We pulled Alexis and Victor into the cloisters for portraits the moment the ceremony ended, then handed them back to the reception for cocktails, dinner, and a dance floor that filled fast.

At the venue

Catavi Destination Weddings built a layout for the day that made the most of the venue's geometry. The ceremony lived in one courtyard, the cocktail hour in another, and dinner in the great hall, so guests moved through the property in chapters and never lost their sense of place. The volcanic skyline framed every wide shot we made, and the candlelight took over once the sun dropped.

Photographer's note

Alexis and Victor wanted a quiet wedding, not a small one. There is a real difference between those two things, and the photographs from this day hold the calm of a couple who knew exactly what they were doing.
