How they met
Johanna and Thomas met abroad, in the slow, accidental way that a lot of international couples do, through mutual friends and a long conversation that ran past everyone else's bedtime. Their relationship has always crossed time zones and continents, so when it came time to plan the wedding, they wanted a place that did not feel like a checklist destination. Antigua came up almost on instinct after a long weekend trip the year before. They booked Villa Bokeh from a hotel room in Europe and never seriously considered another venue.
The day
The morning was unhurried. Johanna got ready in one of the villa's pavilion suites with Jessie Harrison handling hair and makeup, the doors open to a courtyard that smelled like wet stone and bougainvillea. Thomas and his groomsmen stayed loose on the other side of the property. By early afternoon the light had softened into that specific tropical gold that makes Villa Bokeh feel like a film set, and we used it for a quiet first look in the gardens before guests arrived.
The ceremony was held outdoors, with the volcanoes peeking over the treeline and a small string ensemble playing as Johanna walked down the aisle. Cocktails moved naturally toward the infinity pool as the sun dropped, the surface of the water turning copper, then deep blue. Dinner unfolded under string lights at long banquet tables, and the dance floor opened the moment the speeches ended. Ultra Weddings caught the energy of the night with a film crew that knew exactly when to step in and when to disappear.
At the venue
Villa Bokeh has a confidence that does not need much from the photographer. The architecture is contemporary, but it sits softly inside the landscape, with tropical gardens, a long infinity pool, and pavilions that open completely to the air. We moved through the property in chapters: gardens for portraits, pool deck for cocktails, the open-air dining hall for dinner, and the inner courtyard for the after-party.
Photographer's note
Johanna and Thomas wanted a wedding that felt like a long, slow exhale, and Villa Bokeh gave them exactly that. The photographs from this day still carry the warmth of how easy they made it look.
